Ghader Bashiri

University of Auckland

Ghader is a biochemist and structural biologist, pursuing his research interests in the microbial world. He completed his PhD studies with Distinguished Prof. Ted Baker at the University of Auckland in 2009. As a postdoctoral scientist, he then received a Sir Charles Hercus Health Research Fellowship through the Health Research Council of New Zealand. He is currently an Associate Professor and head of the Laboratory of Microbial Biochemistry and Biotechnology at the University of Auckland. The overarching research themes in his laboratory are to address the global issues of antimicrobial resistance and agricultural methane emissions. Their research blends structural, molecular and computational biology with genetics and chemistry to obtain a fundamental understanding of these systems at a molecular level, and to apply this knowledge for new sustainable solutions.
