Introduction

With the widespread adoption of Type-C ports and the ongoing trend towards thinner and lighter devices, traditional 3.5mm headphone jacks are being phased out in smartphones and other portable electronics. However, with a vast number of wired headphone users still relying on high-quality audio output, the challenge lies in developing an adapter that not only ensures seamless connectivity but also maintains superior sound quality. Current market solutions fulfill basic needs but often fall short in decoding capability, signal processing, and power efficiency.

Bluetrum, a leader in audio chipset technology, has launched multiple solutions in this field. Among them, the AB136D chipset stands out with its RISC-V architecture and integrated professional-grade DAC/ADC, achieving a high-fidelity transmission with a 95dB signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) for digital-to-analog conversion (DAC) and 90dB SNR for analog-to-digital conversion (ADC). The chipset also features an intelligent detection system that automatically recognizes headphone types and adjusts standards accordingly. Its multi-dimensional power optimization design enhances battery life while maintaining exceptional audio performance.

The AB136D is equipped with a high-fidelity stereo DAC (95dB SNR) and a mono ADC (90dB SNR), making it suitable for various audio applications. It also supports microphone amplifier input, flexible audio equalization adjustments, and a range of sampling rates from 8KHz to 48KHz. With a four-channel stereo analog multiplexer and automatic detection for headphone insertion and microphone compatibility, the chipset ensures seamless audio transitions and high-quality sound reproduction. Furthermore, it can automatically identify OMTP and CTIA standard headphones and adjust configurations accordingly, improving compatibility and user experience.

In addition to its powerful audio capabilities, the AB136D integrates multiple peripheral interfaces, including support for touch key input, two 32-bit timers, and two multifunction 32-bit timers that support capture and PWM modes. Other key features include:

  • Watchdog timer for enhanced system reliability
  • Three full-duplex UART interfaces
  • Two SPI interfaces for data transmission
  • Built-in infrared (IR) controller
  • Integrated real-time clock (RTC)
  • SD card host controller
  • Sixteen-channel 10-bit SAR ADC
  • Embedded power management unit (PMU) with LDO, LVD, and POR functionalities

The chipset is packaged in a compact QFN20 3x3mm form factor, making it an ideal solution for Type-C and Lightning headphone adapters.
