All five selected docking stations can activate the turbo mode of the ROG Ally, support 100W PD charging, 4K@60Hz screen mirroring, Gigabit Ethernet ports, and multiple USB-A ports. However, they also exhibit several differences, summarized below.

In terms of appearance, although the more expensive Hagibis model uses ABS+silicone materials, its overall heat dissipation performance doesn't match up to other metallic models. Nevertheless, its all-white color scheme and RGB lighting make it the most visually striking and suitable docking station for the Ally.

Regarding ports, the pricier Hagibis USB-C docking station is the only one with two USB-C ports, enabling connections to other USB-C devices. The JSAUX 6-in-1, on the other hand, demonstrates remarkable creativity by incorporating an M.2 slot, further expanding a gamer's library.

Moreover, the Baseus model is the only one offering angle adjustment, catering to specific preferences.

Performance Test

Testing the cable involves evaluating its supported functions and internal quality. The former includes determining the types of fast charging it supports, and whether it can perform data transmission and video transmission. The latter focuses on assessing the cable's internal quality.

Charging Test

Use an Apple 140W charger with a 140W PD power bank, the input power is about 20V 3A 60W.

The input power is also about 20V 3A 60W when charging a 16-inch MacBook Pro M1 Max.

So, the cable did support peak power of 20V3A 60W and can charge most devices equipped with USB-C.

Data Transmission

Connect the 16-inch MacBook Pro M1 Max and UGREEN USB4 SSD enclosure via the cable, it has a TiPlus 7100 2TB SSD inside.

The Disk Speed Test shows that the writing speed is 33.2MB/s, and the reading speed is 35.8MB/s. The speed complies with USB 2.0.

Replace the MacBook with Lenovo Yoga Slim 7, CrystalDiskMark shows the reading and writing speed can reach 44.01MB/s and 43.93MB/s, respectively.

Due to different systems and test APPs, the data transfer speed of the macOS is slower than that of Windows. But they all meet the USB 2.0 standard.

Video Transmission

Connect the iPhone 15 Pro and a monitor supports 4K via the cable, there is no signal. So, the cable does not support video transmission.

Voltage Drop Test

Voltage drop is an important factor in measuring the quality of the cable. During daily use, when the charger outputs the voltage and current to one end of the cable, it passes through the cable to the other end, which creates the voltage drop.

Connect the cable to the power supply and the electrical load, respectively. And we will test the voltage drop value under different voltage and current. A total of 10 voltage values were tested this time. Here is the result.

As we can see in the bar chart, the voltage drop falls into two categories: 0.15 and 0.46. The voltage values of 15V3A, 12V3A, 9V3A, and 5V3A have the largest voltage drops.

Teardown 

Just like other Apple cables in our previous teardown articles, it has a steel sleeve to protect internal components, which is fixed by solder joints.

The cable is wrapped in a thick layer braided by metal.

There is a tin foil shielding net, tinned copper wires, red power supply wires, and others inside.

In the realm of handheld gaming PCs, 2023 has emerged as a noteworthy year. Updates from prominent companies such as Ayaneo and GPD have already made waves. Earlier in the spring, Asus introduced the ROG Ally to the competition. Later on, Valve brought us the updated Steam Deck OLED. Now, at IFA, Lenovo is making its mark by entering the arena with the Legion Go.

The Lenovo Legion Go is equipped with the same AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor as the ROG Ally. Its standout feature is the massive 8.8-inch IPS screen with a resolution of 2560x1600, also known as 2K, boasting a high refresh rate of 144Hz. It comes with 16GB of LPDDR5X-7500 memory. The current offerings include two versions with 512GB and 1TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 SSD, both following the 2242 specification, similar to the ROG Ally and Steam Deck.

Additionally, it houses a 49.2Wh battery and comes with a 65W USB-C power adapter. It features two USB4 ports, supports Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2, and includes two 2W speakers.

Setting aside its considerable weight of up to 854g (1.88lbs), this handheld console stands out as a top-tier device in terms of both screen specifications and processor performance. However, similar to the ROG Ally, the 512GB storage might prove insufficient for gamers. But the good news is that Legion Go also offers a Micro SD card slot, providing a convenient expansion option for users who may not be tech-savvy or prefer to avoid tinkering with their devices. Interestingly, numerous users have discovered that the disparity in game loading speed between using a Micro SD card and an SSD isn't substantial.

Performance-wise, the 512GB version features sequential read/write speeds of up to 180MB/s and 130MB/s, enabling easy 4K video capture for smartphones, drones, and providing ample storage expansion for devices like the Steam Deck and tablets.

In terms of warranty duration, the aforementioned eight Micro SD Cards come with warranties spanning three, five, ten years, and lifetime warranties. However, overall, these products tend to have high stability, with few quality issues. In terms of specs, taking the 65W option as an example, the USB-C port supports a maximum of 20V3A, outputting 60W, while the USB-A supports a maximum of 5W. It also has a 4K@60Hz HDMI output port for the TV mode. This charger is certified by FCC, CE, and UL, featuring high-quality IC chips that safeguard against many situations.

The last one is an ROG charger that we previously introduced. This charger adopts a sleek black PC matte finish that perfectly matches the design aesthetics of ROG graphics cards, motherboards, and phones. Overall, there isn't a significant difference in performance, and they all support the Switch TV mode while providing charging and docking functions for computers, tablets, phones, and other devices. When it comes to specific purchases, factors like charging power and appearance can be considered.

Among all the HDMI chargers mentioned, only the Baseus model offers 2 USB-C ports, 1 USB-A port, and 1 HDMI port, totaling four ports. Although this product wasn't initially designed for the Switch, the multi-port charging power allocation is more flexible. While its highest supported resolution is 4K@30Hz, it's completely sufficient for the Switch (which supports a maximum of 1080p@60Hz).

As for the other four chargers, they all feature a 60W+5W power configuration and support 4K@60Hz performance output. The differences mainly lie in their appearance. While Benks, an experienced mobile accessory manufacturer, is certainly trustworthy, if you're interested in a magnetic phone cooler designed by a phone manufacturer, take a look at this Black Shark product. It shares a similar circular design with a weight of about 73g, and a green LED indicator lights up when you plug in the USB-C cable. Additionally, it has an input power of 10W.

It features a built-in 5-blade fan with a maximum speed of 7200rpm, complemented by multiple metal columns for efficient heat dissipation. Moreover, it can be connected to the specially designed Black Shark app for controlling fan speed, scheduling shutdowns, and managing the mentioned RGB light effects.

Flydigi

Flydigi B6X Magnetic Phone Cooler

The Flydigi B6X is actually their fifth-generation cooler. It incorporates overclocking cooling and intelligent variable frequency technologies, effectively preventing internal condensation and significantly enhancing cooling. It also has RGB lighting on top, which changes to warm colors during demanding gaming sessions and reverts to normal in other situations.

In terms of performance, it also has a maximum power output of 20W and comes with a magnetic sheet for Android phones and tablets. It can be connected to the Flydigi Game Center app to control fan speed and RGB lighting. However, it's worth noting that it weighs 93g, which might be a concern for users who play games for extended periods.

Secondly, it significantly reduces the weight on the phone, reducing strain on the wrist.

As the name suggests, it has a maximum power output of 45W, and it offers four power levels for cooling. The magnetic end is compatible with the iPhone 12-15 series and various Android models.

In our tests, without the cooler, the phone's temperature increased by 14.9°C, but with OnePlus' cooler, the temperature actually decreased by 7.3°C, delivering outstanding results. Overall, this cooler is a great choice for hardcore gamers, game streamers, and similar users.
